Middle Eastern vocalist Galeet Dardashti (of the all-female ensemble Divahn) follows a family tradition of distinguished musicianship dating back to 19th-century Persia. Her new acoustic/electronic and multi-media solo project "The Naming" draws inspiration from the musical and cultural landscapes of the Middle East and some of the provocative yet unsung Biblical women who lived there. Dardashti's sophisticated compositions in Hebrew, Aramaic, Arabic, Persian, and English lend traditional Jewish and Muslim texts compelling contemporary contexts, with songs evoking both the sounds of the ancient East and future West. The piece will also feature members of SYREN Modern Dance performing live and vivid video projections.
